Help! My 9090db just turned off while it was playing.

I was listening to the FM stereo on my Sansui 9090db. It suddenly stopped completely. I did hear a light popping sound when it turned off. Can anyone please point me in the right direction on this? Thank you.

First, do you have any experience with equipment repair?
Second, is your power light or protection light on.
Third, have you checked the fuses?

Yes. I do have some experience, not professional but some. The green protection light is on. I can't do anything with it right now as I am recovering from shoulder surgery. Just looking for some direction. Thank you for your reply.
 
When you feel up to it you could hook something into the auxiliary input and see if that works. If the aux doesn't work do you have another amp and preamp that you could hook up (after removing the jumpers) to it to see if it's in the amp section or the preamp section? That might narrow it down a bit.

Follow @Mwdan good advice. Also, using a meter check your internal fuses to see if any have blown.

The first thing to check is the power supply for the tuner. It's a common failure point. It's the little board on the far left side of tuner assembly. It generates a lot of heat. Measure the DC voltage between pin one and chassis ground. Should be around 12.5 volts DC.

I had same surgery done in November (I also had a frozen shoulder). The recovery is baby steps but every few weeks you realize "I just did something I couldn't do before".
Go for as much PT as possible and do the exercises they prescribe at home. Soon you'll be able to reach for the sky!
 
Ok, I got the receiver down from the shelf and opened it up. The power supply for the tuner is good. All fuses are okay. I tested the resistors on the F-2624 board and there are four bad ones. From what I have read, this may be the culprit. The bad ones were R33, R34, R41, and R42. Does anyone know if I am headed in the right direction? Also, can you please point me to where the best place to purchase parts are? Should I replace all of them since I'm in there?

I regularly purchase from DigiKey. Mouser is also a good choice.
Replace the bad resistors first and see if your issue has been resolved. If so, then you can continue. If not, then continue troubleshooting.
 
Is it in protection? If the led on the front panel doesn't change from red to green it's in protection. Often caused by the fuse resistors on the driver board drifting to high resistance or open.

There is a thermostatic switch mounted on the main heat sink and connected to the protection board. It is normally open [I think] and kicks in around 150 degrees C. If the unit is running hot enough it will throw the unit into protection. When the unit cools down it will allow the protection board to "go green" again [if it is working properly]. You can test it with a VOM and heat gun which I always do on rebuild. Monitor the heat sink temps and verify the thermostatic switch is working OK. If the unit is running hot then troubleshoot to find out why.

It never went into protection mode. The light never did turn red. It just stopped all audio. The power stayed on, light stayed green, just suddenly no sound. When I power it on now, it starts as normal. Clicks, then the green light turns on. All lights are on. There is zero meter activity from the power meter, or speakers.
Thanks for your reply, I'm waiting for some resistors that were bad on the main power board. I'll be trying one thing at a time and hope to find the problem.

The fuses on the power board are all good. The R30 & R31 are the resistors that I'm waiting for as they were both bad.
