Hey all!
Very new here and need some help/recommendations picking some replacement 4 inch speakers for my set of Reference 4's. I tried refoaming them, however theyre rattley still so I'd like to replace them. Been browsing parts express but want some pointers. (These ones have that fancy tweeter, as per one of these older posts) Any help appreciated!

No replacements other than the originals. If they still rattle, find the source of the rattle….something loose and can be glued.

I just replaced the 5.4" woofers on my Ref 1 Mk 2 with generic ones from Jaycar, a down-under electronics retail chain. They cost about the same as the foam but without the added expense and delay of shipping them halfway around the world, never mind the delicate work of gluing them in. There was nothing from Alibaba that matched the requirements of the woofer any better.

I had to drill new screw holes and reverse the crimped terminals on the wires because the polarity was the opposite. Because the new ones were 8 ohm instead of 4, I had to attenuate the tweeter by 6dB to match the levels. I had also tried minor slight crossover changes but went back to the original values in the end. They sound mostly the same as they originally did.

Sad.

Refoams are decidedly not delicate work. You ever worked on a cell phone?

I would concentrate on getting your Infinity drivers working properly, rather than finding replacements. Those IMG are good, insofar as you can fairly easily remove the dust caps if you choose to shim the voice coils. I've done it both ways. I did a pair of Reference 4s like the ones you have by using a test tone. I also did a pair of CS-3007s by removing the dust caps.
