Here's the story -- a nice woman here in NC brought me a beautiful vintage Magnavox portable for repair. I didn't crack the case, but I'm fairly certain it's a tube unit as it took a few seconds for the amp to warm up. All it needed from me was a new ilder and LP stylus. It was working perfectly after getting those.
She shipped it to a customer in San Diego. The tonearm was secured, the platter was screwed down, it was packed well by all accounts.
The customer opens it up in San Diego and . . . no sound. Nothing coming out of the amp. No hum even, according to the customer. The customer is a young guy and is unfamiliar with vintage phonos, but he says that the platter is spinning, in which case their should be some noise coming out of the amp. BTW, it's a stereo unit (I know tube stereo is uncommon, but the unit looks to be of that era), and there's no sound from either speaker.
Does anyone out there know of anyone in the San Diego area who could take a look at this and figure out what can be done to get it working?
Please PM me and I'll give you the guy's phone number, and let me know if you have any questions. The woman who shipped it is willing to pay to get it fixed. Thanks in advance!
Edit: I've attached a picture that's the same model (but not the same unit). Don't have the model number unfortunately.
