Help Needed - Cassette Deck Not Playing

So I have my cassette deck plugged into my amp correctly. When I hit play all it does is play white noise for a second then it stops. The tape doesnt move but when i hit rewind or fast forward it does move. Any ideas on what the issue could be before i go to a professional?

Could be the heads are not engaging, due to a bad belt or dried up idler wheel. A tech could probably figure this out, but be advised that it usually costs more to make a broken deck work properly, than you could sell it for, with the exception of certain high value decks. With vintage tape decks most issues are mechanical in nature.
 
Appreciate it, I would prefer to keep this one since it was from a family member so it has a bit of that value to me. Probably gonna take it to get fixed or just get my mom to give me her newer one when she finds it. Thanks though :)
 
Agree with Max on the belts, also check that the test tape you tried still has the felt pad attached.
