Hi from the UK!
I’ve come across various threads on here over the years, usually relating to pieces of vintage audio equipment that I’m considering purchasing. Thanks to eBay, I’ve slowly been accumulating the items that I used to drool over in the 80s and 90s but couldn’t afford at the time.
I rarely delve inside the components unless there’s a mechanical fault, as my skill set is far better suited to cosmetic repairs and building speaker cabinets.
A family member recently handed me a 1970s Van Der Molen Artisan 44 record player to repair, despite me explaining that I have very limited experience with electronics. I know nothing about the brand. The auto-play deck was manufactured by BSR, a unit used by a number of UK manufacturers in the 70s. I’ve found the service manual for the deck, but nothing relating to the internal amplifier or other components.
I’ve got as far as I can with the project, having invested quite a bit of time in making the item look and work mechanically as well as it did fifty years ago. However, I’m completely stumped by a damaged component on one of the speaker boards attached to the internal amplifier.
Only one channel is working, which I'm guessing is due to the damaged component. I’ve added some images showing the intact item on the second board. The black section is made from some kind of plastic material, which appears to be sandwiched between insulated pads, but I have no idea what it actually is or what its rating might be. The existing black section appears to be extremely fragile, so it would make sense to replace that one too.
Any help identifying the component and, ideally, suggesting a suitable replacement would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
