Help needed on recording from PC

When I try to record digital audio from my PC to my MCS 3555, only the right channel receives any signal or VU meter movement. The left channel is dead when recording.

The deck itself has two line-in RCA plugs, and I connect them to my PC through a dual female RCA - to - 3.5mm jack. Has anyone who records through PC ever had this happen?

Make sure it's a 3.5mm stereo cable- extra ring at the end of the plug. I've had more than my share of bad cables so checking it with an ohmmeter isn't a bad idea either.

I second trying another cable; also if you haven’t used the audio outs before and/or your computer is pretty old, make sure the line out isn’t fouled with dust.

check balance settings in the pc mixer .. i have had mine pan to one channel before all on its own .. took me a good while to work it out ..i was close to pulling my laptop apart .

This still didn't work, the right channel is still the only one that receives signal.

Just to make sure it's not an issue with the cable or your deck, plug the 1/8" stereo miniplug into something else... your phone, a tablet, a boom-box aux out... and run the two RCAs to your deck. See if you get both channels. If you don't, it's the cable or your deck.

So I just tried recording Aphex Twin's Syro album from a CD player to the cassette deck, and the same thing happened. I think at this point it's a deck problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I've already used contact cleaner on every pot and switch.

might be the record switch needs a proper cleaning . have seen it lots before especially if it hasn't been used to record for a long time .
