Help needed with opening Grundig Audiorama 8000

Hello there....

I acquired a pair of Grundig Audiorama 8000 speakers. I'm unsure of how to open them up. On top of the speaker, I can unscrew the part with the Grundig text. I can also unscrew the next bracket which appears to
hold down the top dome. Having done that, I can not, however, take off the top dome. It appears to to be stuck to the rubber ring which runs around the "equator" of the speaker. Am I supposed to remove the rubber ring? How is the rubber ring held in place? Is it glued to the top dome? I can't find any pictures showing that.

I'd pry. Rubber can move and set over the decades, so what was supposed to be a damping ring may now be binding the grill in place.

If I was going at those I would pop that tweeter out and get a look at whats going on inside to see if any hints about their construction could be learned, might be easier with a small prybar to separate the inside of the seam around the equator

Thanks for your suggestions. Sounds like none of us believe that dislodging the rubber ring from the speaker grille dome is the wrong thing to do. I'll give it a try.

As I, more or less, expected, the surrounds needs to be replaced. What would a good source for that be? Can I use something standard, or do I need something specific to this speaker (I can see a flame war rise from this )?

Found some replacements. Any thoughts?:

• Less expensive
• More expensive
• Most expensive "Gold plated" variety (Does come with other stuff though)?
• Various sellers from China on eBay
