I just acquired two potentially nice vintage CD Players with seemingly similar problems: A Denon DCD-1500 and a Nakamichi MB-4S. They're both pretty clean inside and out, the Nak is near mint cosmetically.
On the Denon, the tray opens and closes smoothly but there's no light on the display, none of the buttons respond, and the CD won't spin at all.
On the Nak, there's also no display, and the tray won't open, but the laser assembly moves into position when I turn the power on.
There are no fuses on the Denon that I can see; the Nak has one 2 amp fuse that looks okay in a visual inspection. I don't have another handy to try.
I know they're old units, but I've heard good things about them both and I'd like to get them up and running if I can do it myself. ANy ideas where I should start? COuld it be the power supply caps? I didn't see any obvious leakage, no bad solder joints that I could see, nothing looks amiss.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
