Help, please |Seeking estimate for a set of Electrovoice speakers

I went full screen on the white mid and can just make out "250", so it looks like you got it!! :thmbsp:

Check this pic out. I wonder if somebody scrapped a couple Patricians to build this unit. T250s and the sawed off crossover plates look like they came from there.
:

I think you're on to something here - similar components to a Patrician, some may have actually come out of a Patrician, but the woofers (and maybe some other bits) look too new to have been pulled out of Patrician cabinets.

It's always very dicey trying to put value on a console like this one.

We know that the T350's are worth several hundred dollars for the pair, and the Empire 598, assuming it is complete and fully functional (aside from needing a belt) is also worth several hundred.

The cassette deck is virtually worthless, the reel deck only worth a couple of bucks. The big question remains where/what is the amplifier. Given what looks to be the vintage of the EV drivers, and the Empire (which is early '70's) & the presence of the cassette deck, I expect something solid state - if it's even present.

EDIT - Cool! We got some more info while I was writing that....

Update! Re: Help, please |Seeking estimate for a set of Electrovoice speakers

Dear All,

Thank you for your patience on the original thread that I posted back in Nov 2013. After a long wait to obtain photos from my boyfriend (now fiancé's!) family, we have uploaded several new photos of these speakers that I previously posted. Your thoughts, as well as market value estimates, are most appreciated in advance.

As I mentioned previously, we are looking for market value estimates. I have posted additional (and new) photos of the speakers on this site:

In advance, thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Is that a 30w??? Wow... Speachless...

*edit* After reading back through the thread I think it's safe to say you have a Patrician in two custom console type cabinets. I'd base my value there, though some may either be lost or gained given it's not the original cabinet. Depends completely on the buyer but you are in the thousands for that setup.

Even if I were not at all in to audio, I would do my best to keep that and pass it along to my children. The sentimental value would far outweigh the monetary...

I just wanted to stress again keeping it. If kept in good shape the value will only increase. You can't say that for many things in life...

As many have already mentioned before, that is one very special speaker setup with much much more value than what they might actually sell for.

Sounds like you're really interested in hearing what they are worth. Let me jump in and mention some numbers here...

If you had an actual set of original "Patrician" speakers, you're looking at $6000 - $10,000 and more depending on condition for a pair - as far as I can remember some of the pairs being sold in the past. A lot of times, you see only one being sold at much lower price. This is for original "Patrician" speakers.

Now, for your setup, you're probably not going to see anything near that, because you don't have the original cabinets (even though those custom made cabinets are beautiful). So, looking at all the components separately and considering that they are not "matching" sets, I'm guessing not more than $3,500 - $4,000. That would roughly be the ebay price. The Empire turntable another $400 - $700 depending on condition, but out of a console like that, probably lower end of that range.

Like I said, this is just my guess and also ebay price. When you try to find a buyer locally, the prices might be even less.

I hate to throw numbers on such a beautiful pieces of gear with wonderful memories of your family, but since you asked.....

Hope you keep them together and find a nice collector or keep 'em yourself. Thanks for sharing the pictures and the history! :thmbsp:

also, looking at the empty slots on that middle console, there must've been an integrated amp and a tuner. something like McIntosh probably.

I realize I am a cynical old guy but I can guarantee that all this stuff is going to be sold and these people are too lazy to look the stuff up on ebay and want someone to do the work for them. Sorry.

In fairness to them, the custom nature of the speakers make it difficult to assess value. Those who are not familiar with audio gear may not know that the drivers themselves have value as do the crossovers. This thread is older and they still own the gear. While they may eventually sell, to call them lazy seems a bit harsh. Cynic or no, you are entitled to your opinion, but no one here was forced to respond and the informative nature of those responses speaks volumes about the majority of subscribers and members here.

Re: Help, please | Seeking estimates for a set of Electrovoice speakers

Dear All,

Thank you to those who shared their thoughts. We really appreciate the collective wisdom of the group, as well as individual opinions. We are not audio experts in any way, which is why we are leaning on this group. The set, as described earlier by my fiancé, has very sentimental family history, and we want to do right in many respects. Currently, the pieces are unused and as his family members get older, they are wishing to see the pieces be enjoyed by a rightful owner. We, however, do not wish to be seen as lazy (and simultaneously realize we can't control others' opinions, of course). We are investing a fair amount of time and energy into this process so as to ensure, if we decide to sell, that the set gets into the right hands, so as to honor my fiancé's father's love and passion for music and high sound quality.

Thank you again to those who have spent their time and energy to respond to us. Any additional thoughts are of course welcomed.

Best,
nilesmanor

You may look below the turntable and see if there is a power amp stashed in the rear of the cabinet . . . there has to be. It would be where the speakers were connected.

Well said.

I, for one, did not get a "lazy" vibe - just someone trying to figure out what they have and what needs to be done with it.

My opinion is to keep it and treasure it, if at all possible. You will likely never have the opportunity to own one again - and will certainly never own one that was custom built and loved by your fiancé's father.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

yes, money comes and goes, but things with sentimental values may never come again once you let go.

Thank you

Dear All,

After a very long hiatus and much thinking, our family has made the tough decision to sell these EV speakers as a full set. We have also secured a shipper who can securely package and ship the speakers from the Midwest to anywhere in the world. The cost of the handling and shipping will be in addition to the total cost of the speakers. If any readers would like to provide current market estimates of the full set, we would be most grateful. And, in advance, we assure you we are not being "lazy" (as a previous poster commented)...instead, we simply want to do absolute justice and honor my late father-in-law's passion for sound!

In gratitude,
Nilesmanor

Your best bet is to list every component (drivers and crossovers) and confirm that every component functions properly. There are sometimes slight variations in the components of offered Patrician systems, so specific confirmation of what components are offered by you is important.

While I actually prefer your rosewood cabinets, purists would generally prefer the normal cabinets unless there was overwhelming formal documentation that these cabinets were an EV "special". Much of the market for these speaker systems comes from Asia, where they effectively build audio shrines, and where they are meticulous in confirming "standard" authenticity. Since such documentation is unlikely at this point, as noted above you will be looking at a likely discount to Regular Patricians, and that discount may be substantial.

Finally, when you say you are offering the speakers, are you looking to include the turntable and any other components? If so, your offer should be specific and a list of the additional components should be included. The more you inform potential buyers, the less they need to discount possible uncertanties.

Wondered what became of this...

No mention of selling is allowed here though. Only questions of value...

And as for being able to provide an appropriate value, we would need to know if any other equipment is hiding inside the cabinet. There has to be something to supply power to the speakers, unless of course it's been removed previously.

Beyond that, looking up each individual item on eBay sold listings is the best way to go. As in, each tweeter, midrange, woofer, etc. To you it is probably worth more whole due to sentimental reasons but to the rest of the world it's parts...

Many thanks to each of you who chimed in with your thoughts.

To hammr7 - Thanks much for your ideas. To answer your question, we are looking to include the turntable and all components in the valuation of the total set.

To HyKlas - I appreciate your tips. I apologize if my post implied in some way that I was unintentionally trying to sell the items on this board. That is most definitely not my intention! Instead, we are looking to assess fair market value of these items.

Best,
Nilesmanor
