Help please!! Technics tt cueing problem

I recently purchased a super nice Technics sl-1950 TT... I don't think it has been used in years but has been stored in it's original box and appears to be like new.

This morning I hooked it all up and found that the cueing lever does not have any affect on the rest... so the TA wont raise or lower. I consulted the manual and found that this model TT has an adjustment screw for the cueing rest... I set screw to it's tightest point, bottoming out the cue rest.

The TT plays very nice but at end of vinyl side, TA drags across play surface upon returning to stand... So I am out of luck.

IS THIS SOMETHING I CAN POSSIBLY REPAIR? I hate to get things apart and do more damage. I am very anxious to use this TT but would like to get it dialed ...

Suggestions please. btw, anyone know of a reputable repair service for TT's in the Philadelphia area? thanks, r

IIRC, the SL-1950 is the changer version of the SL-1900. I've had two 1900s and both had this problem. It's a sticky cam under the base of the tonearm. This thread allowed me to solve the problem:

With all the "mechanicals" involved, it's not for the faint of heart, but if you're careful and work patiently, it can be done.
