so a friend of mine gifted me this cabinet. All components work. I am gonna have a tech replace the plug (it’s frayed) and go through it all and refurb. The cabinet doesn’t work in my house. I was thinking of taking all the stereo stuff out of it and building a smaller cabinet. I would keep all but the speakers. Too big. The receiver is a fisher. Cabinet was built in ‘58-60 sometime. Not sure if I should use the turntable from in there either. I have a nice technics sl-q2 I can use. I wanted to know if it would be worth using this equipment or should I look into newer gear. If you don't get an answer here, try posting in the Fisher forum. You might browse some of the info at top of that forum anyway, lots of good info on these units. Good luck.
 
Looks like a Fisher TA-600, which I believe was used in the Premiere console. If it says Premiere in the upper left corner, thats what it are. If it says 600, the receiver was not originally married to the cabinet. Changer looks like an RC-98. Nice looking, but honestly nothing special. Excellent 78 machine if you have inclinations on that though.

The Fisher 600 is a really nice piece. I own one. It does an honest 18 watts per channel, and its among the ballsiest little tube receivers you'll hear. FM is mono, AM tuner is excellent if you're into that, the phono preamp is quite decent, among the better phono preamps of it's day and overall its just a decent piece. It doesn't quite have the allure of the later Fisher stuff but honestly its no slouch either. FM stereo with an external multiplexer is definitely possible, or its fine just running in mono.

To be honest with you, if that were mine I'd pull the stereo out and just keep the speakers. Offer the cabinet up to someone who might want to re-purpose it. The speakers look quite nice, and are probably something pretty decent.

Use the turntable in the cabinet or my technics? If the technics...would it just plug and play, it would I need another accessory? Also, wife hates the cabinet for the speakers and they are quite large. Any recommendations on just small, decent bookshelf type speakers? Would they have to be paowered speakers or phantom from the reciever? Thanks. Sorry for all the newbie questions. I just started with all this and it’s pretty overwhelming.

The Technics is probably the better machine. The TA-600 has magnetic phono inputs, it'll take the Tec with no problems.

No need for powered speakers. Not a speaker expert, but I run mine with Klipsch KG-4's. Me being a smartass I'd be tempted to trade the wife in on a set of speakers, but there are reasons I'm not married.
