Help Rega-Heads! Motor Upgrade 2/3?

finski

This 'Old' Newbie purchased a Rega Motor upgrade for my Planar 2 and then read the fine print: '...not for use with the Planar 2'. What's up? On the website they call it a Planar 2/3 upgrade, they sell only one product in this category. My plinth is 1" thick and so is the plinth of my pal who has a Planar 3.
So I write to Rega and they claim this upgrade only works with the Planar 3 'which has a thicker plinth'. Hmm. So I write back to Rega asking for details on the dimensional detail and suddenly they cant read or type any more.
Can any of you Rega types shed any light on this one???

I put one on a Planar 2 with no problems at all. It had the old motor system suspended on a rubber band - like yours?

I'd suggest you find, if you can a local dealer for Rega for more details. I've been impressed with the Rega folks in England, though, in answering questions. Heck, they sent me a complete set of documentation and alignment papers for an RB-900 I purchsed used!

BTW, the upgrade is well worth it and easy to install, too.

Cheers,

David

Thanks David, that's encouraging. I have done pretty well everything else with this table, Deep Groove, Iron Audio, modded RB300, damped with Dynamat underneath, and big heavy stainless cones on a heavy isolation platform with neoprene footers. A Denon 103 and MF X-LPS v3 and it sings....

I have also been modding my planar 3 and have noticed you mention the Deep Groove.

Are these any good and can I buy one in the Uk?????

Cheers

I have only seen it on musicdirect.com new at $179 and occasionally new/used on Audigon (the vendor buys it and then decides later to sell the table and breaks it back down into the components to get more $$) for about $100: I bought it this way, it had not been installed. It was a good upgrade, better ruby bearing and more substantial machined subplatter and spindle, high quality oil. It has quite a bit of heft compared to the stock. Lowers the noise floor and improves PRAT.
