Help repairing a Garrard slx3

So, inherited this Garrard slx3 turntable (which is similar to a Garrard sl72b, I think?) from a an older relative who'd been keeping it in a closet for who knows how long.

After taking it apart to clean and regrease, I've been able to get it to run at the right speed, and the mechanisms mostly seem to work - except I can't quite seem to figure out how to stop the tonearm from jerking back towards the middle when it's setting down from the auto stop.

Any thoughts or advice about the potential cause would be appreciated.

Something is obviously getting bumped into during the cycle. If you can set up the table so that you can look at the underneath while you or someone else slowly rotates the platter, you may be able to see directly what the issue is. It is, of course, possible that it is something in the parts under the platter, but I'd start underneath.

It might look slightly different under your platter, but here is the auto shut-off mechanism in a 72B. It needs to be disassembled and cleaned.
