Help: TEAC 35-2B

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone out there can help me.

I’m on the lookout for some parts for my Teac 35-2B.
At some point in its life, the 4T head was removed, along with its holder. This deck has a somewhat unique head mounting system.

By any chance, does anyone have a parts machine or know where I could find a head holder for this model?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

appears the erase head was also moved over one position.

your chances of finding a replacement OEM head are going to be really tough. Even if you were able to locate a replacement, you'll have to find someone to align it for you.

Can think of two options.

1. contact skywave tapedeck repair in the metro Chicago area and see if he has one. (actually may be better off sending him the whole deck).

2. contact JRF magnetics and have them rebuild the headblock and add the 4 track playback head.

The Teac 35 also has RCA outs off the head block. Makes it really easy to add an external tape head preamp which will surpass the performance of the OEM electronics.

Thanks for the replies - I've reached out to Skywave.

I think finding the mounting system is going to be the hardest part - it's seems it was only used on this deck and the Japanese equivalent.

The deck sounds amazing - and I bet using an external preamp would take it to the level.

Based on your photo (which is missing a front view so I can't see the tracks), the 4 track play head appears to be intact. The only thing missing is the 2 track record head. A 2 track erase head is mounted in the place where the 2 track record head goes.

So do you have a new 2 track record head? And you want it installed in the correct place and then put the 2 track erase back to it's original spot?

Or did someone install a 2 track record head where the headblock says "4 track play head"

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I didn't upload a photo of the heads. It's the 4T head that has been removed and the 2T record head moved into that position.

I'm not looking for a head just yet - I'm after the head holder (seems to be a unique design for this deck) I'll worry about getting a 4T head later.

You likely won't find both a new original 4 track play head and a complete/correct mounting system for it.

Did you recently buy this deck and you knew it had a missing 4 track play head before purchase??

If I find the mount then I'll look into getting a 4T head for it.

Yes, I did know the deck was missing a head when I bought it. It didn't cost much - and it's fully operational in it's currently state. 2T Play / record work and it sounds really good.

All I've done so far is service the mechanical side of things - cleaning up old oil and such. When I have time I'll run an alignment tape though it - but for now it's all good - minus the 4T payback part.
