Help! ...Trouble Finding Big Power Supply Caps.

Hello,

I'm looking to do a recap of my 100 WPC TEAC AG-V3020 receiver. It has been going strong for about 20 years but I think it's time for a recap. I can find almost all the caps I need in the high end Nichicon KZ/FG or Elna Cerifine/Silmic II lines.

The one cap that is giving me fits is the 8200uF-80V cap. Nichicon does not make a suitable snap-in KG cap for this spot. I could probably do some modding and mount a solder lug 10,000uF KG but I would rather not if I did not have to.

I have found Rubycon MXG/MXC and Nichicon KS capacitors that should fit this location in both 8200uF and 10,000uF - 80V sizes.

Now the challenge is finding anybody that carries Rubycon in the USA or finding somebody that will let me order just 2 instead of 500 of the Nichicon KS.

Any tips in tracking these or another suitable cap down would be greatly appreciated.

Usually the big caps are pretty long lived. If your rails don't sag badly with the old caps I'd probably leave them be.
 
Im not sure if Italian Kendeil capacitors are sold in the US but I'm very happy with a pair of these I fitted to my Quad 405.

Try and find one in a 100V rating. Gives you a bit more headroom voltage wise (it won't hurt anything or increase your power but if the rail voltage is really close to the rating on the original cap, a bit of headroom helps it.

The schematic annotation by these caps says +/- 62V(51.8V) Load. Up is defiantly better. I was briefly considering using a 63V cap but I think that would be cutting it too close. :scratch2:
 
power caps

Try Tedss.com electronic supply-I couldn't find power caps for my old mitsu power amp and stumbled across this sight (no affiliation btw).

What are the dimensions? (in millimeters)
 
What is the application for these caps in your receiver? I have used Cornell Dubilier for the large screw-type power supply caps (31,000 uF) on my Threshold amps.

These caps will be on the +/- 62V supply rails for the power amplifier section so it is important that they are super quiet.

Be VERY CAREFUL ordering from Tedss. Most of what they have is junk.

I recently ordered caps from them that were described as "new". They had 30-year-old date codes and were so dried out you could use them as maracas.
If I had put these in my amp, no doubt I would be rebuilding the entire power supply, including new transformer.

After speaking with someone there, I realized they really don't even know what they are selling and don't really know anything about capacitors.
 
I was going to suggest Newark. That's where I got power supply caps for my old Heathkits that fit in the original clamps. The have/had Sprague and Mallory in the big sizes.
