HELP... where do I start?

I just bought my first TT, a Technics SL-1210 MK5. It has no cartridge and I need some advice. I have an Onkyo P306 RS pre amp that will accept MM or MC cartridges. I'd like to keep it around $100-$150. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

The Denon DL-110 measured excllent, tracks excellent, has a reasonably flat response, low distortion and has very low surface noise. It is commonly known that it's stylus is of a much higher grade than normally found on a cartridge of it's price ($140). It is hand made and quality controlled in Japan. On a very high quality stereo system, using a suitable quality table/arm, it can easily make high grade recordings sound real/realistic, to my perception.

Does the DL-110 require a special moving-coil phono stage or can it be used with a standard moving-magnet stage?

The Denon DL-110 is a high output moving coil. Will work well with most magnetic phono stages. A natural match made in heaven for your stock 1210 tonearm. Very musical together. Tracks very well. Nice sonics. Clean reproduction of most any music. Nice midrange and HF extension.
