Help with 3D blu ray issue :(

Hey all, I just picked up my new Samsung series 6 led tv and am trying to get the 3D working properly.

My source is a fat PS3, running 4-point-something-something software, so 3D is essentially working. A slow pan over a meadow looks wonderful, HOWEVER when it speeds up or too much is happening on the screen, it is as though one side of the image starts lagging behind the other, so of course the 3D effect is completely lost. I don't know how else to explain it, I am sure in some scenes, you can actually see the image in the right eye a few milliseconds after the left (I hope this isn't just the years of abuse on my optic nerve catching up with me).

So far all I have really tried is buying a better quality HDMI cable and that didn't help, oh and have tried several different films, all to the same disappointing end.

Would love to hear from anyone who has had the same problem and overcome it, or just has any idea what else it could be. Thanks in advance, Kiz.

If the fat Sony player isint a 3d player I don't know what difference software can do. You gotta have 3 things to watch a 3d blu ray movie......a 3d TV, a 3d capable blu ray player, and a 1.4 HDMI cable. I have no idea about that Sony though.

To isolate te problem, you might borrow* a 3D Blu-ray player from a local retailer with fairly liberal policies, switch out your 'puter, and see if the problem goes away then. If it does go away, you know the problrm is somewher ebeteen the 'puter and the software. If not, you know it's somewhere else in the chain.

*purchase it, keep all packing materials, try it, neatly repackage it, and return it for full credit within a day or two. ...or keep it if it works. Some of the new ones have some pretty nifty features. I love my Sonys

What ram spec is your PS3 fat? I remember a while back on a different forum there was reports of issues with 256 Megabyte PS3 and blu-ray playback, don't recall if it was also a 3D issue.

This sounds like a glasses syncing problem to me. It sounds like the glasses are losing sync with the emitter. Are you watching 3D in complete darkness?

Is the emitter in direct line of sight with the glasses? I would go with Mean Markw idea, and get another 3D player to test things out. IMO, 3D from a PS3 is a hit and miss thing. Some folks get excellent results(but have to give up the lossless audio), and some have trouble with it syncing correctly with the television.

As good as the PS3 is, it was never conceived to handle 3D - that was an after thought.

Hey man, it's the 80 gig, so 1GB maybe?? I seem to get mixed responses on a search online... Anyway, the deal I got on the tv comes with a free Ps3 slim via redemption, so might just have to wait until that arrives and see if that improves things.

Terrence, you might be onto something, my center speaker actually covers the front of the tv and a little bit of the screen, as this doesn't worry me for most movies and I have nowhere else to put it, so I will try removing it and re-syncing. Failing this, as I said, I will be getting a 320 gig PS3 slim in the next couple of weeks, if neither of these things fix it, I might have to look at the tv as the problem.

One last question, even in complete darkness, the 3D seems to have more 'ghosting' of each opposite image than, say, the passive cinema would. I expected a little more, but does everyone experience this? Mainly noticeable on highly contrasted images, like white writing on a black background.

UPDATE:

Moving the center speaker certainly worked. The 3D is perfect now... Well, as good as can be expected. Only problem is that my center speaker is now on a crate on the floor... Not sure how I'm going to get around that one. Guess I will just have to raise the TV on some blocks or something. Didn't wanna have to do that for stability reasons, but oh well.

Glad to here the Fat system wasn't the issue but I bet you'll have better with the newer 320 gig. You could rig a shelf above the TV for the center channel that way you won't have to put the TV on stilts.

Looks like all new PS3 systems come stock with 512 megs unless it's been modified.256 meg is used for the operating system and 256 meg for GFX. The PS3 slim still bests many of the new BD players out there for PQ and load times.

Unfortunately I am in a rental house, so wall mounting the speaker is a no-go If I could wall mount anything it'd be the TV, coz the new Samsungs are super thin and look awesome on the slim wall mounts Hopefully the 320 gig will come soon and I can have a play, I do hope it is better, as I am looking forward to having so much HDD space to record TV shows on (the 80gig only leaves room for about five hours of recording).

The ram for the OS wasn't as critical as it is for the video. It isn't needed due to the fact the slim is no longer able to play PS2 games.

I haven't gone 3D and probably won't until all the bugs are worked out.

Good idea. The Samsung has 'crashed' on me twice now, trying to get it to display 3D images in the correct resolution (they come out all blurred and overlapped if the PS3 doesn't talk to it properly). I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it going again.

As for the slim PS3, I am regretting replacing my 80gig fat with it. I like the extra HDD space, as it is primarily used as a digital TV recorder, but it often crashes when using the play TV. I know it is the PS, as I have changed back and forth my two PlayTV devices between the two different PS3s and always it is the slim with the problems. Also, fast forward and rewind are not as good (jolty) when compared with the PS3 fat. All these are superficial problems, but problems that a 'version 2.5' piece of hardware should have overcome. I have up-to-date drivers in both, but still the five year old Playstation prevails.

I shudder to think what this gen III PS3 is going to be like. My local videogames shop is offering a trade in of your old PS3 plus $198 to 'upgrade' to the new design 500GB. Not on your life!!

By drivers do you mean firmware updates and Play TV software updates? I don't have a Play TV setup here as it wasn't offered when I Purchased my PS3 as it never made it to the USA. Back in 2010 Sony was working on Play TV 2 but I got rid of my Play Station and haven't looked any further into it.

Yeah, sorry, firmware. So they are both running the same and the most up-to-date.

I am surprised that the PlayTV never made it to the US. It is a very affordable way to get the most out of your PS's hard drive. The first one I bought was almost $150 when they came out and I wasn't going to get a second one, but I found one in a pawn shop here for $45au with the bluetooth remote included!
