I picked up this Project One at GW the other day and can't find out much about it. A few threads here and there, but not quite what I was looking for. First I was hoping to find a manual and failed. Vinyl Engine does not seem to have it. Since this was distributed by Playback, it seems that no one knows who is the actual OEM. I looked at a ton of CEC manuals and models and don't see much like it, although that does not mean it was not theirs.
Anyways for $15, I figure I might keep it. I can still return it for a few more days, but everything seems to work. The belt is in tough shape, but actually turns the platter yet. There is no cartridge, but what do you want for $15. My questions are: Is it halfway decent? I suspect it is BOTL or close to it, but still the construction is better than some I have seen. . How do I mount a cartridge? Looks like std 1/2 screw spacing so that is not a problem. Do I need to secure some cartridge leads to put on the shown pins then? Does this integral headshell just rotated when I loosen the top thumb nut? I actually took it out and it is just a screw on a flat, put it seems hard to turn and I don't know which way it turns, if directional? Don't want to force it too hard not knowing for sure. That's where a manual would be helpful. Don't mind the nut on the head in the one pic, I just put it there to simulate some weight to test the cueing...it works, surprisingly.
I can surely buff up the cover and clean it up, just wondering if it is worth it. I have a weakness for orphan turntables when they turn up a GW, which is not often for me these days. Thanks
