it seems my pioneer rt 909 has stopped working..
All lights work, fuses are good but when I go to play a tape the motor does nothing the brakes release but the tape does not move then it stops and the play light goes off does noting in FF or Rewind.
Any ideas Thanks

Which motor does not move? The capstan motor? The reel motors?
Does the capstan motor run when you lift both tension arms?

Well, if the capstan won't start up then the first place to look is the tension arms themselves. They have cut off switches attached that shut the machine down at the end of a tape. Try moving the arms back and forth a bunch of times (like 20 or more) and see if that does anything.

Well, I'd start by jumpering the tension arm switches out of the circuit to make sure they are not causing the problem.
If that doesn't fix the problem, I'd start looking at that group of four drive transistors and the two power diodes that are between them. I had two bad power transistors and a bad power diode. I replaced them all with new components.

Good luck!

voltage of the tension arm switches...
Right side 23.7 on one side and 2.4 the other..
Left O no voltage maybe we are on to something..
What next?

Well, the switches are in series, so that doesn't surprise me. You'll have to close one switch to see if the 24v makes it to the other switch.
You can also just check it on the motor control board solder points where the wires come back from the switches.

I did have 24 v at both and while checking the wind up motor both started running and then stopped there may be a loose wire some were still looking.
or did one of the switches start to wok while moving it around?

the voltage seem to be jumping around on the switch it is 24v the other side of the same switch its 2.4 bad switch?
is there a way to clean the switch?

I got the capstan motor running by jumping one switch .does that mean I have a bad switch if so were do I find a new one?

Thanks to all you guys I have my 909 back up and running although I will need to order the switches I replaced them with some from RS they work but can't lock the tension arms but until I get the new ones its is working .
Thanks for all the help.
