Help with a Technics sl-2000

Recently purchased a Technics sl-2000 from shopgoodwill website that was a local pickup and didn't realize until after I picked it up that it was missing the tonearm counterweight. Now I know the sl-2000 is not a TOTL model, but I felt like I "scored" for myself considering the chances of ever finding vintage gear in our local goodwill is 0.0. Anyway, does anybody have insight as to finding a compatible tonearm counterweight? I know the sl-1200 doesn't fit (I've got two of those and I've already tried). I've been unable to find a specific match for the sl-2000 on the web or ebay as of yet. Is there another model of technics counterweight that would match that would be a bit easier to find? Thanks for any information!

Look on eBay for counterweights for the SL-1900 and 1950. Also, you can research anything that looks like it's the same by comparing the part number in the service manuals with the SL-2000 part number. Service manuals are available for many Technics turntables at the VinylEngine.com.

OOPS! I just checked this out. The part numbers are different but the weights really do look the same. Meanwhile, there's an SL-1900/1950 counterweight on eBay right now for $24.00 shipped. That's about an average price but it's a lot to waste on the wrong counterweight. (BEWARE! There's another one listed for $20.00 but with $22.00 shipping.)

The Technics SL-20 uses the same counter balance weight, SFPWG22001K. Look up Technics SL-20 counterweight. There is one for 17.99 w/ free shipping

Thanks for the info guys. I had a feeling that the counterweight for the SL-20 might work. Now to figure out why my SX-1080 blew the right channel boston acoustic CS 26ii I had it hooked up to last night!

check out KABUSA, just Google search it. They have tonnes of after market and OEM parts for SL1200's, including replacement and upgrade tonearms, complete. Even mods and upgrades. The 1200 is a great deck, dont let the haters dissuade you from restoring it. Good Luck.
