Help with Dual 1257 automatic start

Hello!

I recently bought a Dual 1257 and noticed that I had to switch the start knob to begin turning the table, then manually set the needle to play anything. After looking at different threads, I figured it was the steuterpimpel that needed to be replaced. I did that, and the manual start function started working, but no luck on the automatic function. In addition, the tone arm only moves slightly when I move the lever. Any help appreciated!

This may help. You probably need to clean off the old lubricant and re-lubricate the moving parts underneath.

It sounds like you were already have to start the table manually. What exactly changed after you replaced the steuerpimpel?

If one of the auto functions operates, but not the other, it could be an issue with the "cam follower lever" highlighted in green, which controls which function (auto start/or auto stop) is performed.

If neither function works, check to make sure the "shut-off lever" and "friction plate" (highlighted magenta), aren't stuck, they engage the cam upon start switch activation or tonearm reaching end of a side. With platter removed and upon activation of the start switch the shut-off lever should move toward the center spindle and overhand the edge of the cam a little.
