I know I have read about this issue here but am unable to find it. I am getting too much hum from my Rega RP3. The hum increases as the tone arm is moved closer to the center of the platter. Anybody know whats up with this?

Other equipment is Rogue Cronus and Klipsch Heresy III's.

The motor is probably the source, since it's the thing near the center of the platter. Do you have another system you could try it in? Or do you have a cartridge with lower output you could try?
 
Where is the turntable sited in relation to other parts of your hi-fi, particularly the amplifier or receiver? Because magnetic cartridges pick up hum very well, it’s essential to keep them away from amps and receivers, as they are prone to picking it up from the large electro-magnetic field surrounding the transformers in amps or receivers (also TV’s, monitors and computers).

It’s best to keep them at least 6 inches (150mm) away, preferably more. If they are too close, try re-arranging things – components which will be better close to a turntable include low power consumption components – cassette decks, preamplifiers, graphic equalisers or tuners are better than anything with a power amplifier or monitor in it.
