Help With Linn LP12

The first time I posted on this forum it was about an older Linn LP12 I was having some problems with. Since then I got a new Thorens running which I am very happy with.

I recently got the Linn LP12 back from someone I had given it to out of frustration. After working on the Thorens and installing a new tonearm, I am now really interested in taking on the Linn to perform some upgrades myself and install a better tomearm than the original Linn Basik.

Someone on the forum mentioned the name of a person or company that could probably help. I need to know where to get parts, and could also use tonearm recommendations. I also need some consultation in what to look for on an older Linn to determine what it needs, if anything. It might just need a good inspection and adjustment.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'm getting ready to start a new turntable project, and I'm going to start a post with step by step pictures for anyone interested, but I need some help getting off the ground.

I had that second link, but not the first. Thanks. I need to find Linn parts. My local dealer is only interested in doing the upgrades himself to make a profit and will not sell parts separately. Maybe I should contact Linn directly and complain since he is an authorized dealer. I was thinking more of determining the specific parts I need, then probably keeping an eye on audiogon and eBay to get a better price. Direct delaer parts are going to be expensive.

Linn´s long established policy has always been to have their authorized dealers only carry out any upgrades and / or service on their TT´s.

The LP-12 is so finnicky, that even the way the arm´s cable is tightened by a fastener is supposed to affect the proper working of the table´s suspension.

Well, I'll have it back on Wednesday. I'll remove the bottom cover and take some pics. I was an electronics assembler and technician for almost ten years, back when things were all built by hand. I think I can handle it if I take good pictures and keep notes during the process.

Just make sure you use the linn template for setting up the arm. I had put my cartridge "Grado Sonata" and used the DP systems arm set up. When I sent it back to the dealer he informed me I had messed up the overhang by 3-mm.

There is a Linn Dealer in Colorado in Fort Collins who had NO problem selling me parts. I picked up a restored Valhalla board, and springs and some other fun things..

Thanks Mark, that's the kind of info I'm looking for. I have the Feickert protractor which should work fine with the tonearm specifications.

As an LP12 owner who's just getting into diy audio stuff, I'd appreciate any pics and advice/lessons you can offer. Good luck.

I will start a new thread at the beginning with pictures of the unit as is and keep it going. This will be a long process, so be patient. I found the "Audio Alternative" company in Fort Collins, CO. I will start with them for consultation.
