Help with Marantz 6100 to Art Audio BA-400MKIII

Hi, I have never had a vinyl turntable or used one.

I found a Marantz 6100 turntable, and a Art Audio BA 400MKIII aluminum speaker (but only one) in my grandparents' house. Photos attached.

I want to use them, but where I think the power cable is, there's a cable that just ends without any kind of plug mechanism, just a wire with black rubber around it, so I'm not sure how to give the turntable power.

There seem to be RCA cables, there's a Red and Grey one, but connected to the Red one is also a cable that seems to have been cut. Nothing seems to fit directly to the Art Audio speaker.

I'd love to find out what parts I need to get, where to get them, and how to set up this turntable and speaker so I can start playing records and get a sense of time travel!

The cable with the Red and Gray RCA male plug ends is the audio signal cable from the turntable's tonearm. The Red cable is damaged (cut) and most likely the entire cable length should be replaced - both the Red, Gray, and the ground wire. It's not something that can be spliced back together. The other cable appears to be the turntable's AC power cord and its been cut. It's missing the plug. The AC power cord for the turntable should be replaced.

Now, once you get the AC power cord and RCA cable replaced you will then need to connect the RCA plugs into either a stereo amplifier / receiver with a built-in phono section. Or, you can connect the RCA to a standalone phono amp which in turn will connect to an amplifier/received via the AUX connections. There is not way to connect the turntable directly to the lone Art Audio speaker.

(a) how much is this endeavor going to cost?
(b) is it worth it? is the quality going to be that much better than buying something new, like http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z0IBLH8/ref=twister_B00Y286K14 for 50 bucks?

Two different animals. The Amazon unit is a toy compared to the 6100. The question is what do you want? You will need a receiver and a pair of speakers to listen to the turntable. What is your location, there may be a local member to help you. The turntable needs to be rewired, and probably a new belt also a needle for the cartridge. The Marantz was a popular TT in its time and currently sells between 150-300 depending on condition. Yours on the on the low side right now.

Assuming the only things wrong with the Marantz is the damaged audio cables and power cord and assuming you do the repairs yourself, it will be cheap and simple to repair.

The rest of what you need can be had pretty cheaply from thrift stores or craigslist but it may take a little time to assemble. Of course, you can spend a lot too if that's the way you want to go. All this depends on your own desires.

Now, it almost certainly will cost you more than the $50.00 price of the thing on Amazon. It was described earlier as a toy but it's actually worse than a toy. It is so poorly engineered and so shoddily built that it will actually damage your records. So, $50.00 new will buy you total junk but the same amount of mo ney spent intelligently on used gear can get you something pretty acceptable.

Thank you both for the explanations! This forum is so awesome. I'm motivated to repair it- but could definitely use help, because I'm worried that even if I order the right cables, I'm not going to know how to connect them. I'm in Los Angeles, California. Any tips?
