Help with pioneer pl 570

Hiya Ak,
This is my first post, sorry if I'm breaking any rules.

I bought a pioneer pl 570 (the wooden one) off craigslist and its a little broken. Every time I plug it in, the strobe turns on and the platter just spins by itself. The buttons don't affect it at all. I got it to work once but it never worked again.

Welcome to AK! That's a great turntable, I have one and it's manual brother, the PL-550.

You could just use it as a manual turntable if the speed is correct. But it sounds like it's stuck at some point in the automatic cycle. Hop over to www.vinylengine.com, register and download a service manual for it. Free. And post a video as Balifly has suggested.

Take careful, complete notes of what it does in sequence, in response to your actions. Sometimes some of the linkage pieces get wonked out of place when the TT is shipped or jostled around. Sometimes this may work itself out, and sometimes it needs a little help. You don't want to crack it open and try to fix it until you understand what is going on under the hood. Follow Dusty's advice and D'l a service manual.

Search this site with google by entering "site:audiokarma.org PL-570". The built in search engine has trouble with short or numerical strings. There is a lot of info here and it will help you get acquainted with your new prize.
