Help with Pioneer SX-424 !

Hi,

This is my first post and I hope you are doing well, whoever reads this. Also, I'm from Québec (Canada) and my mother tongue isn't english so sorry for if I'm not using the best words or sentences to express my concerns.

I have a Pioneer SX-424 since many years now and I have some problems...

First, the front light is not working anymore, I saw a thread to change bulbs and fuses and will try this eventually. I'm reaching you all because it seems to also have a problem with the « Am / Mono / Fm / Phono / Aux » knob (switch). When I put it on phono (and sometimes even FM or AUX) the sound is not truly reaching the speakers... I have to push or hold the knob to make sure the connection is crisp. If a lift a little bit the knob then sound is super clear but as soon as I take my hand off and release it, the sound or « connection » is bad again...

I want to learn by myself how to repair this and since I will open the SX-424 to change the main light fuses and bulbs, I want to make sure that I only open it once to also repair the knob-connection-problem if necessary.

Don't know if I'm clear, I will send pictures of the lights off and also the knob when I push it up to establish a good connection...

Get the Service manual. There is an exploded diagram to help you remove the front panel and change the bulbs. HIFIEngine.com has the manuals.

Mono FM or MONO button in? FM Mono bypasses the Stereo Multiplex DeCoder. Mono Button combines signals from both channels and outputs the mixed signla to both channels. It still could be dirty contacts, switches, or pots. 1st thing recommended it to clean all of them. Simplest, cheapest fix.

My 8th paternal grandfather Robert Drouin 1607-1685, emigrated from Rouen France in 1624 and landed near Quebec city.
He's buried near or in Chateau-Richer, Capitale-Nationale Region, Quebec, Canada

Mono button in! I'll clean everything and keep you updated with all of this. Drouin is a common name here, I'm living in Montréal but Québec city is a beautiful place!
 
probably quite a few 8th-9th Cousins up there from what I understand. I've found 5-6 variations on the spelling of the Drouin last name. Guess it's time to finally start digging real hard on my Father's side of the family.
