Help with Realistic Lab-2200 Linear Turntable

Semi Newbie here with a question. I purchased a Realistic Lab-2200 Linear Turntable from CL. The needle was completely shot so I replaced the whole p mount cartridge with stylus with a Audio Technica AT3482P.

It seems that every record I play skips in the first track or two but If i move it to a track further in it plays fine. I have checked the balance with a level of the TT and it seems fine. I still have the original cartridge. It seems there is no way to adjust anti skate or weights on the turntable this thing is fully "automatic" My question is is should have i not replaced the whole cartridge from the original realistic and just changed the stylus? My thought is that everything comes preset on this thing and by adding a new p mount cartridge I've disrupted something. Anyone have experience with a linear tracking TT? I've added some pictures. I don't know the details around that table, but I have worked on technics linear tables. My guess would be that there's some dried-up or gummy lubricant earlier in the path of the arm carriage.

If you are up for it you will have to disassemble the table. Hopefully it's easy to just get the top off and then you can see the path that the linear arm takes. It might be a simple as cleaning that path.

hopefully someone who knows his table chime in, but it's definitely going to take a disassembly to figure out what's going on.
 
Thanks kmp14 I took the top off and being that this thing is from the mid 80's there def was some gunk/dust on the tone arm carriage. I cleaned it off with a q-tip and was wondering what type of lubricant I should use on the carriage bar? Also, it looks like there is some type of adjustment screw on the bottom of the tone arm. Wondering if maybe that could be some kind of adjustment for the ton arm? I've attached pictures.Thanks!

I had a LAB-2000. You might need a true TP4 cartridge for this, but I would check the rod that the arm glides on for sticky lube. I would clean and put a few drops of sewing machine oil on the shaft. You may need a new belt for it, as well.
 
Great news. I cleaned the rod with rubbing alcohol and got everything off of it. Then I lubricated it with a small amount of 3-1 oil and put it all back together. No more skipping at the beginning of records!
 
Glad to hear it is working again! I have used dry teflon lube on those arms on my Technics. I figure that dust won't stick to the dry lube. Anyway, if the 3-1 gets gunky and you have problems in the future, give the dry teflon a try...or you may not have any problems for years and years...either way, congrats on getting the table working. Now enjoy the music :music:
