Help with replacing amp BIAS trimmers

vincei

aka MasterControlMedia
I am looking to replacing stock amp bias and offset trimmers with quality multi turn units. The originals are two 470 Ohm (bias) and two 220 Ohm (offset). I have some high quality 500 Ohm multiturns lying around, can I substitute those higher values in place of the lower stock values? Or will this cause undesired behavior or damage?

The amp I am working on is a Sony TA-N80ES Thanks for any assistance.

500 ohm for bias and 200 ohm for offset will be fine. I can't recommend that you swap a 500 ohm for offset unless I saw the circuit it was going into, but with most diff-pair input schemes with offset adjust, this would alter the tail current too much.

Thanks for the reply EW. I can't seem to find the 220 ohm value in the package I need, hence the question. I will continue my search! Thanks again.

As I said, 200 ohm is a common modern value, and will work fine. You will not find a 220 ohm pot, so don't bother looking. 500 ohm is too much of a departure for most diff-pair compensation schemes.
