Help with Sansui SP-Z990 speakers

I picked these up today from Goodwill for $30, in part due to these saying they can handle 400 watts... but also due to the fact there was a little boy there who was trying to push the woofer cones in :( I stopped him before he had done too much damage; I used some tape to pop out the parts he pushed in and they look just fine now.

I did my best to test these out in-store by hooking them through a random Sherwood AV receiver on the shelf and running my own sound check playlist on my phone. I was honestly impressed; there were a few chaps passing by in the store too who were impressed as well. Sounded pretty clear and the bass was excellent (better be for 15" woofers!!).

However now I'm home and hooking them up to my own receiver, they sound a bit dull. The bass is still plenty rich but the mids are very muddy. My receiver is only 75wpc but they still don't sound even close to my MCS 8330s I have hooked up currently. How much power do these things need to sound even serviceable? I'm not familiar with Sansui's speakers; are they even worth keeping around? I was think about getting them re-foamed and sanding it down.
