Help With Speakers for My New-Old Sony Setup

I have the following:

Sony STR-7055 receiver
Sony PS-X60 turntable
Speakers: circa 1998 Infinity RS8 (with side firing 'midbass' powered woofers) tower type.

This set up is for records only. Led Zepplin III sounds pretty good.

So it sounds good enough, but what do you think about searching for some new speakers? Or perhaps older stuff (to repair etc)? Always been a fan of JBL. Dont even know about budget but def not looking at thousands, probably $500's.

Why not?

Hi mid70s and welcome to AK. Nothing wrong with searching for different speakers. It's something I did for 18 years or so. It's a journey discovering that sound you want and along the way you may find something you like. I decided I like small monitors a lot especially British monitors. I also like east coast American speakers too. Can't go wrong with JBL. Had L-100, L-16, P30, and 2500. Liked them all and wish I would have kept the L-16. It's a lot of fun trying different speakers with different gear. Have fun and remember if it sounds good to you then its good.
