Hope you're right about that @Mr Boochie.....I'm hearing either a bearing or a timing chain that's loose (you don't really want it to be that.....). What kind of car are we listening to, amigo???

Had a vintage, 1981 Mercedes 280SL



until not long ago where the bearing in the water pump emitted a very similar sound, so not the end of the world but definitely a job to get to and repair! Come to think of it, I also had to replace a power steering pump because the bearing was going and also, similar noise but who knows, eh? "Enjoy" is a curious descriptor but yeah, if you're a curious sort it probably works!!!

It's just my WAG.

You know how it's not easy to judge mechanical noise signatures from YouTube videos of phone mics.

Hi Everyone, new to the forum.

Just got into the TT adventure and I could use some help in diagnosing the constant crackling I’m getting.

Setup:
TT: New Fluance RT82
Receiver: Used Yamaha RX V-667
Preamp: Art DJ Pre II

I uploaded a video of a song transition so you can hear it without the music playing. Link under the pic. (Please enjoy my one other 10 second video of my car engine making a knocking sound if you’d like). It crackles like that for the duration of the song. Granted I’m currently playing old used records so I’d expect some but this seems excessive.

I did read that sometimes the stylus has a break in period, is that the issue or does this just seem like dirty records? All the articles I saw had people jumping at acrylic platters and anti stat guns right away, trying not to make $100+ purchases if it’s not necessary.

The good news is that even the dirtiest records can be cleaned to very igh quality, if not physically damaged. I cleaned up a record today that had mold growing on it due to storage where one corner was damp. Yuck. Fortunately, with my manual cleaning, it came out flawless. There is a ton of record cleaning info out there. My only expenses were a record label protector, a disk doctor brush, apva sponge, and an antistatic micro fiber cloth. I re-used several spray bottles. The treatise, precision aqueous cleaning of vinyl records is great. I use Tide free and clear laundry detergent as it's ingredients are very close to those very expensive cleaners. Dish detergent works, but has ingredients that, while not harmful, are not necessarily helpful ( viscosity modifiers, foam builders, color, scent, etc.). Having said all that, my greatest resource is an unlimited supply of high quality reverse osmosis water. ( had 16 parts per TRILLION arsenic, limit is ten, so I had to install a polishing system. My recommendation is to rinse, rinse, rinse.
