Help with tonearm lifter height adjustment Sony PS-X20

The tonearm lifter on my PS-X20 was too low--when the lifter was raised it was just barely above the vinyl and in some cases touching. The service manual is confusing--it refers to two screws. One is a hex set screw that affixes the arm lifter to the lift shaft. The other is a vertical Phillips head screw that's recessed in a hole in the chassis.

I first tried turning the Phillips screw counterclockwise but it seemed to have no effect. I ended up loosening the hex set screw and raising the lifter to be higher on the shaft so the stylus is now a few mm above the record when the lifter is raised. Not sure if this is "correct" but it seems to be working OK.

Does anyone have an idea of what the Phillips screw is supposed to do? The "manual operation" section says "set screw (*)" but the diagram has the asterisk pointing at the Phillips screw.

I would also call the Allen head one a set screw. It adjusts the position of the lift platform on the vertical post and either Phillips head screw adjusts the stroke or travel. What you're doing seems correct.
