Help with Yamaha NS-A380 speakers

shelly_d

Not An Audiophool
My son picked up a pair of Yamaha NS-A380 speakers for $5. The fly in the ointment is that a tweeter and both midranges are blown.:sigh: I intend to replace them from Parts Express but need a bit of help. Does anyone know what the specified sensitivity of these puppies is?

Thank you in advance.

Not really high end drivers. I would lean toward getting something from parts express or Madisound if you cannot locate replacement parts at a good price.

I robbed these pictures below..

I checked the auction site and there are none to be had at the moment. I do want to get replacements off of Parts Express (I like their prices) but I would like to be able to try to match output levels with the woofers. Right now I'm assuming that the sensitivity of these things was in the neighborhood of 80dB to 85dB /watt/meter but I'd like to here from someone who is familiar with these to know if I'm in the ball park.

Thanks

Let's be honest. As cheap a speaker as they are, it won't really matter. If I was going to do anything with them, I'd try a descent DIY 2-way design and just x-over the woofer pretty low so that it's hardly a part of the equation.

To be honest - it does matter to me. My 13 year old son is spending his hard come by money on this and I want to help him do the best that we can do on these. They may have been had cheaply now but they are not a cheap pair of speakers. This was picked up from a used stereo shop cleaning out its back room to make themselves some room.

Does anyone know the output level that these speakers had?

Thank you

I don't know but I'd estimate around 87 to 90 db and there are plenty of good midrange and tweeters in that range that for not much money you could have a good sounding pair of speakers
