Help!!!!!!!

Although the unit is hard to pass on, getting hold of such a unit to restore and then play the cassette is illogical.

It is more likely for the precious tape to get chewed on this deck than on a serviced and operational open reel deck.

WOW those are monsters xD.
A cassette player nineteenfiftees reel to reel style! I knew these cassettes existed, but I'd never seen the recorders. Very interesting!

About that Ebay auction: there are a couple cassettes included i think (well I saw some in the pics), so you could test it with one of those first, instead of the one with your precious recordings on it!

In case you're still looking, there's another one of these machines for sale on ebay. Came across it by pure chance just now and remembered this thread.

It's listed as "RCA Victor 1YC-11 Quick Load Cassette Tape Player" and ends on 4 Dec at 5:40 pm Pacific time.

Just out of curiosity, what's the status of getting your tape transferred to CD?

i've been outbid on two of them. one went for under ten bucks, the other over thirty. i've got an akai gx-230d, but one of the reel holders is bent, and the controls need a good cleaning. too many other projects going right now to fool with it. i've been watching, but haven't seen the auction you refer to, i'll try to find it in a little while. i'm not willing to spend much to do this, but i'd rather not have to open this case, and the players are pretty cool, so i wouldn't mind having one. i'll find a good deal sooner or later. when i do, i'll post pics!

Tried to do search just now and it wouldn't come up. Went through my browser's history to find it. Sure enough, it was sold with a Buy it now for $39 + shipping.

It looked like it was in fairly good physical shape although it was described as playing slow. Came with 11 tape cartridges.

So sorry.

finally got one! patients paid off. this one is supposed to be tested and working. i'm keeping my fingers crossed, but not holding my breath.

well, the unit arrived today, poorly packed, and parts are rolling around inside. can't blame usps for this one. the unit was thrown into its original box, some peanuts were thrown in around it, it was wrapped in a plastic bag, and stuffed into a slightly bigger box. woefully inadequate. i hope to get over being mad about it today. tomorrow i'll decide whether to send it back for a refund or try to fix it.

Don't discard it already. It appears to be in good condition, no edges broken or whatever.

Just undo the screw between the reels, remove the knobs and the cover and then gently shake the unit to it's side for the debris to come off.

heh, I bet the stuff rolling around inside are just the tubes.

I doubt they're overly complex machines, and unless it's got physical breakage, I'd keep it. And heck, even with good packing, UPS at this time of year is a pot shot...

well, cracked her open. the rattling inside is a couple of plastic dog-ears from the top plate that have nothing to do with the operation. they could be re-glued. however, the belt is goo, and having never seen it in good condition, i'm not sure i could figure out how to string it, or to measure for a replacement. i've emailed the seller and am waiting on a response. i'm kinda peaved, because the auction clearly stated that the unit had been tested and was working. there's no way this thing could have worked. the electronics are pretty simple, just two tubes (it's a mono unit). i'm fairly certain i could get it going again.

That is cool that you found one of these decks. Sucks that it isn't as advertised. If you can ever find a belt and need help with the routing... I'd be willing to try. I can usually figure out stuff like that.
