Hello:)

My name is Kristine and my spouse is a Luxman collector. I have no information or knowledge of electronics. His birthday is next week and I would love to add to his collection but need some assistance. Can anyone help? I would really appreciate any information to assist in getting him the perfect gift.

I decided to create this profile so I am able to learn more and have a better understanding on this topic:)

Thanks
Hope to hear from someone:)

Given the short time and vagaries of buying vintage electronics, I'd suggest searching online for a vintage advertisement - have it framed and it'll be a nice addition to the collection.

Ebay usually has several advertisements, signs and articles for sale.

Welcome and good luck!

I know it sounds tacky--because I too hate the impersonalization of giving cash or gift cards as gifts because it takes the entire "thought process" out of it, but in this case--I'd give him a card with money in it making sure he knows it is meant to be spent on something Luxman.

As you already stated, you are on the "learning curve" here, and he probably knows better what he needs or wants to round out his collection. Give him whatever amount of money you were intending on spending and let him know that you thought of him by designating it to go to his audio hobby.

That's about the best advice that I can give--you can make it work. If you randomly buy him something Luxman, he may already own it, not need/want it, or it could be from the wrong era/series of gear, or (even worse) you could get burnt on the purchase, since you are new to this.

Just give him the money--after all, the hunt is half the fun anyways.

What a nice way to enter the forum! Welcome!

I think savatage1973 has the best idea in this case. I'm willing to bet that you can make it work just fine.:thmbsp:

Welcome to AK Kristine! - I'll second the sentiment of what a nice idea you have there.

Awesome!

Thank you so much for the responses!

I like the idea of a vintage advertisement as I feel he would love it! I don't have a lot of time but will give it a shot....if I cannot find one in time then I will do the gift card for his collection.

I am quite interested in finding out more about the Luxman products so I can understand what he has and what he would enjoy adding.

Do people sell Luxman items on here? From what I can see this is the place to find out the information I need.

I appreciate the responses and thank you for the warm welcome:)

Welcome to the AK forums. Does he have a turntable? If he does, you could get him some albums. If he doesn't, you might get him one.

lol he has a few turn tables.....tons of records too! Tried looking all day for some vintage posters but nothing yet.

Any ideas for a vintage poster for an audio collector? Maybe not Luxman but another brand that would suffice?

Thanks:)

Can't post links to ebay auctions here, but I did see a magazine advertising page: 1984 Magazine Ad #9176 Luxman Hi-Fi Stereo System in Burt Bacharach's Home

This search on ebay turned up some non-Luxman possibilities including promotional items like pocket knives, tools and lighters..."Electronics advertising, vintage"

I thought I had a slam dunk idea, but didn't realize that there were so few Luxman posters, etc online.

Welcome, he is lucky to have you. Maybe you can Google image search what you are looking for, and print your own. I suppose you could get him a subscription here as well. :)

lol

Hello everyone:)

So I have been looking for ideas on a Luxman gift but cannot seem to find the right thing to get him. I decided that I would get him a rare vintage record or two. Tons of ideas and he would enjoy listening to it on his turn tables.

We are heading off to the States for a weeks holiday this weekend. His birthday is on Monday so I planned out where we would be so I could surprise him and take him to this amazing record store. I called the owner and asked what they had in stock so I could make a purchase now then present it to him when we stopped in.

Problem is....they refused my service hahahaha. Said the request was too hard (just a purchase over the phone or through paypal).

So back at the drawing board. Looking for another record store to assist.

Thanks again for all your ideas. Very helpful.
Kristine

Too bad you are having so much trouble, that was a neat idea with the record store. Speaking from retail experience, I would probably not complete a sale from some random person over the phone. Maybe they would be willing to hold a record or two for you to pay when you arrive?

Good luck!
