Its been a while since , well many things. Since I visited here. Since I got new speakers. Since I wrote anything about speakers.
So, here I go again.
For a good while I was pretty happy with the speakers I have. And I still am. Really. I even stopped looking at local sales. Just didnt feel a need for it.
And suddenly, while shopping for something else, I came across these speakers. Canton Karat 950 DC. While I heard the name before, I never listened to them in any model. I dont even know anyone who has them. One thing I knew - they are rare here in the States. And they are good. I guess, thats two things.
They looked very well made, with beautiful finish, so I decided to listen to them. Unfortunately, receiver that seller had, was a cheap crap and they sounded ok, but not superb. That kinda made me pause a little. But since these were pretty rare speakers, I decided to go ahead and get them.
I'm glad I did.
When I got them home and cleaned them up a bit, connected them to my system. And oh WOW! they sounded a 1000% better! I have some other well respected speakers, like Klipsch Heresy III, Source Technology, Definitive technology, etc, so I have pretty good baseline to compare them to. All I can tell you - they can EASILY hold their own next to those speakers. Given their size I didnt expect much of the low end, but at volume set to 10 o'clock position on my Optonica receiver, I could feel Bass in my chest while playing some Dire Straits passages. Very clear mids and highs, without being too forward. Soundstage and separation are amazing. At first I thought I had my Source Techs (Big Black ones on a photo) playing my mistake. But no - these were Cantons! Just simply amazing speaker.
I have them sitting horizontally but they can be set up vertically as well.
Dont know if you can see the spec on the back so here they are:
4-8ohms impedance
100W norm., 140 W max.
26-30000 freq. range.
no word on sensativity, but I read somewhere it should be about 87-88db.
So, all in all - another great find.
