The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued
a Winter Weather Advisory... which is in effect from 6 am Saturday
to midnight CST Saturday night. A wind chill watch has also been
issued. This wind chill watch is in effect from late Saturday
night through Sunday morning.
Snow will develop early Saturday as an Arctic cold front plows
through the region. Strong northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will
develop in the wake of the front... resulting in areas of blowing
snow and reduced visibilities. Temperatures will also fall through
the day on Saturday... causing wind chill values to fall to between
25 below and 35 below on Saturday afternoon and evening.
Winds will decrease on Saturday night ending the blowing snow
threat... but even more dangerous wind chill conditions are
possible overnight Saturday night through Sunday morning. Wind
chill readings may drop as low as 40 to 45 below on Sunday
morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
A wind chill watch means the there is the potential for a
combination of very cold air and strong winds to create
dangerously low wind chill values. Monitor the latest forecasts
and warnings for updates on this situation.
