I thought I would post these pictures for the benefit of those who might not have ever seen one.

It is the "tape recorder cleaning kit" that came as an accessory with my Pioneer RT-1020H that I purchased 35 years ago!

I never used it, and it always stayed in the original carton. I had other items that I used for cleaning and did not use this kit. One of the reasons that I did not use it was that my Pioneer rep. told me that Pioneer was working on an RTR deck that was going to rival the absolute TOTL semi-pro units that were on the market at the time. I figured if they came out with it, I could sell my RT-1020H for more than I paid for it (as a salesman, I bought it direct from Pioneer for 50% of list price) and then buy the new unit. I wanted to be able to have my unit be as "new as possible" in case of resale, so I didn't use the cleaning kit. As a result of this, it is still unused.

As an aside, did anyone else ever hear (back in the 70's) that Pioneer was going to produce and market such a deck? Doc? Anyone else?

Have you ever thrown anything out, or sold anything?

Very little.

It has been my practice to clearly identify those things that I would truly like to have and that I will be pleased with for a long time.

I'm not very big on the concept of "disposable". As a result, the items that I have bought through the years have served me well and continue to do so.

I have a couple of those little blue cleaning cloths. I been thinking of getting the wife to sew a couple into a small pillow and use it to lay something on next to my turntable.

Time ran out, and the money did too!

I guess it wasn't the RT-2022/2044 then...

I'm sorry, I missed your post.

I don't know if it was or not.

I do remember that whatever it was (or wasn't) didn't come out while I was still the 70salesguy. After I graduated from college, I took a position with the Power Company in one of their Nuclear Power Plants.

Now that I was dealing with rent, utilities and all of the other things that come with "real life", there was no money for a new RTR and no "salesman" discount"!

I would continue to use the RT-1020H until such time as my wife and I married and I moved to her house. It would then be "packed away" in the original carton until just a few weeks ago!

The acquisition of my Crown SX824 was the spur to get the RT-1020H out and put it back into service. It works very well, but it could use a new drive belt and a belt for the counter, which I have ordered.

Next I am going to get my Akai X150D out and place it into service as well

:-) I see what caddisgeek was getting at!

I'm a hoarder myself and am currently agonising over several useless things that are cluttering up the house and I will never use again but know I will regret as soon as they're gone. Not that I would've had the same dilemma with a pair of Reel To Reel decks!

Buy and hold

At the time that my wife & I decided to marry, we both had homes less than a mile apart. Her house was a little bigger and a little newer, so we decided to sell my house and I would move into hers.

My stereo sytem was set up in my "Great Room" and featured 3 pairs of JBL L-100/4311s as well as quite a few other goodies. Her request was that she did not want our living room to look like "a recording studio", so my concession was to cut back to one pair of 4311s and "pack away" the RT-1020H. This was to be for only about a year, since we had planned to either buy or build a new house. It turned out to be 12 years until we built that new house and I got my "Stereo Den"!

As a result, I have some pretty nice gear that has been "packed away" in original cartons, including multiple sets of Crown gear and pairs of JBLS!

I'm not really a hoarder, but I do tend to acquire quality items and use them for a long time!

However, if I die unexpectedly, there's going to be a heck of an estate sale!
