I am re-building a second pair of 1982 Heresey HBR's. They are a strange combination of components:
K22 Woofers, K 53 driver w/ 700 metal horn, K-77M tweeter with the E2 crossover.
Beyond the cabinet refinish, Crites crossover recap and mouse dropping cleanup, there was damage to one of the woofer dust caps as mice ate through. (some surface scratching on the woofer cone...minor)
My question is can I purchase a dust cap to repair the K22? Is this a difficult repair? I hope to use what money I have to upgrade the x-overs and consider the Crites Ti diaphrams, instead of just replacing the woofers.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be interested in updates, as I have an older pair of Heresies, and would be interested in the Crites mods, how they sound. Other than that...:worthless
 
Replacing the dust cap is not difficult. A new dust cap will cost about $5.00 plus postage of around $10.00 min. You might just as well replace both if you want an identical match. If you are not worries about the cosmetics simply repair the one that you have with some white glue and some coffee filter paper good as new and if at a later date you want to replace with a new cap you can
Switching to the Ti mid diaphragm (only available from Klipsch) is a great idea. You might also consider switching to a pair of Crites CT125 tweeters. There is a pair for sale at the Klipsch Garage Sale for about $100.00 with flush mount brackets which is a great deal go get them now.Below is a link to some pictures of a well braced set of H3 you can have a look at. Thes brace work makes a big difference but there are a lot of other things that you can do also if you want to milk your Heresy to the max. I hope this is of interest. Best regards Moray James.

I don't think you can do the Ti modifications to Heresy...only Heresy IIs or most of the II designated Klipsch speakers...you can change the crossovers or add the Crites tweeter...

Silversport: You are mostly right. I was able to do mine as they were built in 85 and are almost an H2 as they have the mud magnet mid drivers not the K55 Alnico units. I think that switching to a K701 and a ceramic magnet driver with the Ti mid is a very good option. Best regards Moray James.
 
It's about time to finally remove the drivers from my HII and purchase new Crites C/O on new boards like I did my Cornwalls. That might be a good time to add some braces:scratch2: To be honest after I rasied them up so the mids are at ear level(bedroom fronts now) and I added a sub.WOW...:music:
I should have done this 20 years ago. I am not sure I need to change anything brace wise. What will I really Hear by doing all the brace work??

Louis what you will not hear (with brace work) is an almost square empty hollow box with no braces and resonating panels. What you will appreciate is a tighter cleaner more dynamic sound with bass which is more articulate. You can take a look at the pictures of a Heresy brace job which provides maximum stiffness with minimum brace volume posted above. Coupling the back of the mid driver to the back baffle is a good idea which further stiffens and damps the cabinet. Good luck and enjoy. Best regards Moray James.
