Heresy help?

Greetings !

I'm new to this great forum, thanks for having me , and for sharing your knowledge...

ANyway, new to AK, but not to Klipsch sounds !!

It was a Heresy that.....
....I sold my Heresy ll's awhile back, and felt bad about it later....SO ,when a pair of the original Heresy's came up on my local Craigslist last night for $120, I had to go for it !!!

First, guess I should ask what are the structural / electronic differences bet. the Heresy and H2 ?

It seems that the hi-end is lacking in 1 speaker.....is it the upper horn ,or perhaps something in the crossover? Are there any simple troubleshooting tips I can try?

Should it be the horn tweeter, am I limited to replacing it with one from the original series, or will later ones work?

Thanks in advance for your feedback !

You could swap the tweeters to check out what's going on.

It's cheap and easy enough to recap the crossover, and it may well be time.
The diaphrams in the tweeters can be replaced for <$100 if that's and issue.

you could take the front screen off the speakers...they're held on with velcro on the Heresys...put a sock up to the tweeter or squawker to see if it is out...it may need a new diaphram...you will want to update the crossovers at some point because at best they are 23 or more years old...but give them a listen for awhile...the Heresys should go a little lower and not quite as high as the Heresy II but I like the Heresy better than the "II"...YMMV...
Enjoy,
Bill

I use a paper towel roll like a stethescope and have my wife audition the tweeters while I inject test tones. She hasn't done the years of pistol competition that's left me with tinnitus.

I will spend some time over the next couple of days and do some troubleshooting....thanks for the input so far....

drknstrmyknight - what?

Bogframe - I'll think about it...:scratch2::sigh::thumbsdn:

BTW - I grew up in the NY metro area and used to see The Good Rats frequently !!!....one night , I got hit in the face with one of Peppi's rubber rats....good thing I was feeling no pain.....anyway, one of the GREAT "unknown" bands ....

Addendum / Post Script/Epilogue/ Painful Confession -

First of all thanks to everyone who responded to my whole Boy Who Cried WOLF thing....
Problem was totally at the other end of the wires -Eeeessshh
DoH!!
The pair sound great with 60 NAD watts each.....low volumes sooo nice

I have them as close to corners as possible , angled as suggested, on some boards ( for now ) stacked to about 6 inches off of floor with about 15 degrees of backward tilt - any other suggestions?

Peace

Yes enjoy them,I had my old heresy's on some 12 inch high stands and liked them that way just my 2 cents.

I had two, what I thought were blown upper horns in my heresy 1's. But I ran into an electronics repair guy who told me that in his experience they did not blow but that a wire inside had broken. He repaired my two horns for $5.00.
Altho he did say that they probably would not take a great deal of "abuse" from then on, They do work. Just my own experience. Good Luck

Well, after reading all of the posts here about cap replacement, I changed out my Heresy's to a set of 1 poly and 1 mylar on each crossover ( my local was down to the last 2 of the poly ) at the original ratings
WOW ! !! !

I sat and listened to a variety of music from Aretha to Zappa and was blown away by the detail and richness . .. ...at low ( for me anyway ) volumes!...
I can't begin to imagine what these things would sound like with tubes
