Heresy v KG4

Hello,

I purchased my first pair of Klipsch the other day, KG4's via CL, and have found a pair of Heresy speakers that I'm pondering picking up to replace them. The KG4's sound great through my Nak CA5 and Dyna ST70 but I'm wondering if the Heresy would be a worthwhile upgrade given the chance is at hand...any suggestions? Anyone have the opportunity to compare the two?

I haven't compared the two, but there are plenty of instances where I've heard people with both that like one very much more than the other. I've read many times where people were surprised to like the KG4 better, so if you get the Heresys, don't sell the KG4s before you try them...

There's a long thread here on Heresy opinions. IIRC, there is a recurring theme of unsatisfying bass, which I don't think is a big complaint with the KG-4s. I've never heard either, but KG 3.2s are my main speakers and I like them a lot.

Heard a demo of Heresys at the Chicago-area AK get together with a tube amp and they sound very refined, good dynamics and just very nice and impressive.

I own KG 4's and if given the option I would probably not trade them for the Heresys. The KG 4's are a more versatile speaker - efficient enough for about any amp, full-range so they make awesome speakers with your TV setup, excellent rock speakers, etc.

I expect if you setup an A/B test in a two channel setup with excellent electronics and room acoustics, with careful listening you might prefer the refined sound of the Heresy.

But I will keep my 4's

Cheers, Snade

The Heresy looks cooler, in my opinion. That kind of thing is actually important to me, as long as the sound is up to snuff.

I have both pair and I will say it depends. At lower listening levels I like the Kg4's. If I really crank it up the Heresy's tend to sing a bit better. My Kg4's are 24 years old and they still sound great.

Mine are rated a 4 ohm not 6 ohm like others. The Heresy's I have are 8 ohm however and hooked up to the same amp don't require as much power as the KG4's. The bass response is best with my KG4's at about 12-16 inches from the wall.

The Heresy's sound better in the corner of the room with a slight slant inward. I will say this, I would not pay $1600 for a pair of Heresy's (today's going rate for a "new" pair in the Heritage series). I only paid $1500 for a new pair of Cornwalls and they blow the Heresy's out of the water :)

Just my .02

The Heresys are not going to have the same bass as the KG4's and will seem somewhat lacking. However, the midrange of the Heresy is far superior to the KG4. I personally like the Heresy better because it will handle more power and reach deafening levels like a PA speaker. The Heresys sound best with tube gear, it gives them a little more bottom end and makes the highs and mids extremely pleasing to me. I would definitely get a pair and keep your 4's also. If possible try to find a pair of Heresy II's or III's, they are much smoother than the I's.

i also have the kg4 and heresy I speakers. i have only used solid state with them both(sansui/marantz/mcintosh). the 2 speakers sound so much different, its hard to say which one i like better. the kg4's have more bass for sure, but being a 2-way design, it lacks in the mid department. on the other hand, the heresy's being 3-way have A LOT of mid range and can be unforgiving at times, especially if the source material isnt that good. they also do not have a lot of bass, but do have good punch when used at a higher volume. both speakers are clear in detail, but the kg4's have to be away from the wall at least 12 inches or they tend to get muddy in the low end. at one time i had both sets of speakers hooked up to my marantz quadrophonic receiver and would listen to all four together, which to me was an awesome combination. they complimented each other so well, that when i would use one or the other, i didnt get the full range i was looking for. i ended up finding some fortes and that single pair of speakers gave me that "full" sound i was after. hope this helps...there just my opinions.
