Heresy Woofer - K-22-K vs. K-22-R

Hello Klipsch community! I’ve been a reader for a while but never had a need to post, until now.

I recently inherited a pair of Heresy I’s. They were stored for a long time. The cabinets were really dried and scuffed up from moving around and needed a good cleaning. I took them apart to try to clean them up.

When I pulled them apart, I discovered they had two different woofers. One woofer is K-22-R with the older Klipsch PWK logo. The other woofer has K-22-K with a R stamped on it and does not have any Klipsch logo on it.

What’s odd is they are sequential SN’s. I did find (from this forum) that the “K-22” came in E, EF, K, and R for Heresy I so I’m guessing there is no difference in the woofers? Just seems odd that two with sequential SN’s would have different looking woofers – I’d think their QC would match them?

I’m also the original owner of a set of HFB’s that are “X” so made a year before this other pair (they are "W's"), these woofers match with the PWK logo.

I believe in full disclosure - I’m getting ready to try to sell them so I’m just trying to find out why they would have two different looking woofers so I can inform the prospective buyer.

I'm pretty sure the one with the "R" stamped in red on it is a replacement.
The K-22-R is made by Rola. (a company that supplied the speakers for a time)
I don't think you have a problem there with the differences. I doubt you'll hear anything unique between the two.
 
16 ohm versions

K-22--ElectroVoice SP12B variant from early 60s

K-22--CTS with large alnico magnet assembly early 70s

K-22--CTS with small alnico magnet assembly mid 70s

8 ohm versions

K-22-E--Eminence with alnico magnet mid 70s

K-22-EF--Eminence with ferrite magnet mid to late 70s

K-22-R--Rola with ferrite magnet late 70s.

K-22-E--Eminence with ferrite magnet late 70s to mid early 80s

K-22-K--Klipsch with ferrite magnet last few years of H1 production

I suspect there was probably some intermixing as new stock was arriving and old stock was being used up. There may be other variants. The K-22-K is an appropriate replacement for any of the 8 ohm versions. I doubt you will hear a difference.
