HH Scott 222C receiver & 350B Tuner

I just traded for a HH Scott 222C receiver SN 138839 & 350B Tuner 149789 ans downloaded the schematic from HIFI engine , but no parts listing , will most likely have to track down a Sams folder for that .

This version has the largest output transfomers i have seen in a totally stock receiver that uses 6BQ5 's/ 7189's , and has the 6GH8 driver tubes .

After i get a parts list will most likely order new can caps from Hayseed Hamfest , and the rest of the caps to do it up stock .

Anyone know of any factory modification , that need to be done .to either of these .

Will get some photos posted , have both original owners manuals and other paper work .

Very nice acquisition, Mark. This prior rebuild thread has some links with schematics plus at post #23 has a series of AudioXpress rebuild articles on the 222C that you might find useful plus plenty of other good input in that thread.
 
Very Nice! I have had the same pair for for about 30 years and have never heard them.:( I will be following along with interest!!

I also have a 222C and am intrigued by it (was listening to it an hour ago). Considering how loud the 6BQ5 can go, I wonder if too much power is being lost in the tone controls? This is just a guest, as I'm using 6BQ5s rather than 7189s and also running it at 105V just because I have a big Japanese step down transformer to hand. Will be interested to hear your thoughts as you go.

Some detailed photos would be fantastic! I saw the photo in the for sale thread and was trying to land the deal on them. Congratulations on the score. For those who didn't see the thread the tag was hanging from the knob still... I could taste the minty from my chair in california...

KWMU the local St. Louis collage PBS station , still sounds very good on the weekend evenings when there is music , will compare it to my Fisher 200B after i get both on them in top shape .

Will get some photos after my grandson leaves

Haven't cleaned it up yet the finger prints look worse with the flash .

Is there a repository for HH Scott literature , is so i would like to send them copies
 
Batt,that collection of literature is a treasure-trove of history. Very cool! That model and the Fisher SA-100 probably have the biggest output transformers in the history of the EL84/6BQ5/7189 family of power tubes. Nice score:)

It used to have a great email forum where members traded great technical info.
The 222 amp is a sleeper of sorts and a good amp. I believe it may also have a noteworthy phono section.

I have taken measurements and the winner for the biggest output transformers for an EL84 amp (7189), is ......
drum roll please....... the Sansui AU70.
 
I took the dimensions almost 10 years ago when i was rebuilding it. I marvelled at the size of them and measured them. I would have to get it out of storage.Do you have the measurements of the Fisher? I have measured the Scott and i know that the Sansui is way bigger.

I too would be interested in the Sansui's measurements. Looking at pics of the Sansui on line, they may stand a little taller than the Fisher's, but the lam stack is not as tall/wide. Worst case, the Fisher and Sansui transformers may represent the same overall cubic measurement product, although the lam stacks may measure slightly different in achieving it.

For a cubic area of 16.92 Cu In. The Fisher transformers measure 2" X 2.8125" X 3.375 for 18.98 Cu In. or 12.2% more cubic area. For comparison, Fisher's best 7591 OPT, as used in the X-202B and later series as well as the K-200/KX-200 series of amplifiers has the same exact dimensions except for the stack being .25" taller. This produces a cubic area of 21.36 cubic inches, or 12.5% greater than that of their SA-100 transformer. The Fisher SA-100 transformers are the same exact size as the OPTs that Heath used in their 7591 model AA-100.

I have scavenged over the years four Fisher T631-117 output transfomers from K-14 receiver chassis that the core laminations are 2.30" X 3.40" X 3.760 = 29.40 cubic inch for a 20 watt quad 6V6GT amp .

They work quite well with 6B4G's .

I was told about 40 years back that the early fisher output transfomers were manufactured by Todd , anyone know for sure who made them .
