HH Scott 370R restored and sounding Great

Last year I obtained a scott 340R and restored it kind of on a "whim". It was a nice looking piece of equipment especially after being cleaned up. I re-capped the entire unit and aligned the FM section. When I was finisged I was very inpressed with how great the 340R sounded so I did a bit of research on the Scott "R" product line and found out Scott made several higher power units with essentially the same faceplate configuration.

I then posted on audiokarma Bartertown looking for someone with a 380R they wished to part with. No one had a 380R mut one AK'r had a 370R so I obtained the 370R after researching it a bit.

The unit was quite clean and played well but like the 340R sounded like it needed a re-cap/restore bring out it's potential.

The 370R was pretty easy to work on, all of the boards except for the tone board were easily accessible from the top and the bottom. To access the tone board I removed the output heat sink for one of the channels which partially blocked access to the board. After that accessing the board was fairly easy. I only had to unsolder the six output transistor leads from the main amp board, remove the thermistor's mounted to the heatsink and remove the heat sink's mounting screws to remove it, quite painless!

I replaced the main filter caps and all of the electrolytic caps in the unit. There were a lot of 1Uf, 2.2Uf, 4.7 Uf electrolytics in the unit which I replaced with Wima film caps. It was really a pretty straightforward restoration, no boards to unsolder or complicated disassembly. Below is a picture of the restored 370R's chassis.

I set the bias, calibrated the power meters and performed a full power test to see if the 370R produced the 60 Watts per channel in the specifications. It clipped at about 65 Watts per channel at 1Khz with both channels driven. I could not align the FM section as my FM signal generator is in Florida and we are in Michigan for the summer. Despite this the FM section still performs quite well.

I have played the 370R for two weeks with several different speakers and absolutely love the sound of it! As in the case of the 340R, once the 370R was re-capped the sound really opened up, it is an absolute pleasure to listen to.

I will still keep an eye out for a 380 or 390R however..........

Glad to hear your enjoying your 370R.
I have a lot of Scott gear.
Bought my first,a 355R receiver when I was 16 in 1980,still have it and it's sounds great! It's in the 1st pic.
2nd pic is my 390R and last pic is my 350R.
Have much more then this,don't want to over run your thread with my pics
