HH Scott "Choclate" face gear

I need to dig back through my Scott stuff. Pretty sure the brown face denoted a kit while the gold face meant factory wired. As far as rare, I'd say uncommon now. A 265 or 272 is rare.

Brown-face stuff originally was kit, with the gold faces being reserved for factory-built stuff. At some point, I know that they switched to gold faces for everything (my LT-110 is gold, and I know that they made factory-built version of at least some kits (for example, the LK-150 was never available with a non-kit number, but was sold both ways).
 
Soundmotor, anything LK is definitely a kit. Brown faced gear was generally later in the Scott tube production era, in the 1960s, and did not mean it was a kit just by the color, although most of the brown faces were LKs. I have had numerous Scotts, with only one being a brown kit, but I also had a brown faced 299C, and that was a kit as well. Over ten gold faces, over six silver faces, and every one a kit, so go figure a pattern. :scratch2: :thmbsp:
 
Dave, I'm pretty sure the brown faces were the early versions. Of all of the Scott kit stuff I've seen that was made with both brown and gold faceplates, the brown was the older version. They switched to that funky cast aluminum faceplate towards the end of their tube era, as did Fisher.
 
I love Scott gear, currently trying to get a 345 receiver working correctly. Anyone have a link to a picture of the brown face stuff? Don't think I have ever seen one.:no:
