That is an interesting piece of gear. Pair that with an RF signal generator of good quality, and you've got yourself the makings of an FM stereo alignment setup. You'd still want a sweep gen for the IF strip, but this could be used to tune up the demultiplexer quite nicely I expect. Would also do for local low power transmitter use, paired to a suitable RF sig gen.

Wonder what lived in that front corner where it appears something has been removed.
 
I noticed that spot, too. No idea what might have been installed there. Kent might know, being our local radio equipment guru.
 
4 wires, wonder if its an input impedance transformer or something. Could be something more important. If its one of those unobtanium bits, then this might just be a cool looking door prop.
 
Maybe a special option for a particular purchaser. Can't imagine these things were used by that many non-specialists.

But if it were a critical component, then this could end up as a quest of epic proportions.
