Hi Experts,
I found a great HH Scott Stereomaster 631 with a really nice wood cabinet recently. All knobs and toggle switches seem to work but she may need some adjustments or replacements to get her back to spec. And as you know there are no schematics and little or no information for this particular HH Scott model.
The issues I have noticed:
1) The left channel is noticeably quieter than the right. The loudness (or volume) knob does have an individual balance (L & R). You need to hold the R and turn the L 1/3 to 1/2 clockwise to get a balanced loudness. This happens on both speaker 1, 2 and all inputs. I believe the pictured board has had some work done. The boards are labeled "Tone Control & Driver" PC-123 and DY-11. The Power Supply (not pictured) is labeled PC-129.
2) Maybe related to #1. The loudness toggle button does not seem to affect the sound on the L channel. R channel the loudness is working and sounds wonderful.
3) Turning the unit off with the power toggle there is a "pop" coming out of the speakers.
4) Maybe related to #3. A slight "hum" is heard coming out of the speakers at no loudness.
5) It is very difficult to turn the inside L balance knobs independently. I have sprayed DeoxIT on all knobs but still the inside L knob seem very stiff or hard to turn by itself.
Is this HH Scott worth fixing? Can anyone give me some troubleshooting guidance? I would really like to get this beauty up and running better than she is now.
Thank you.
