Hi-Fi, Lo-Fi, Mid-Fi, No-Fi.

On my desk in the computer audio setup, without speakers, I'm using it with WHD Minis. Wooping 2.5 WPC. Made by Sharp.

I our kitchen we listen to a Sony Micro system with JBL Control One mini speakers. It is in a corner on the counter, and it sounds very pleasing. On the PC my wife uses there is a Sony shelf system, that we paid $100 for. Except for deep bass it sounds pretty good, but I do not use it very often. About ten years ago, I was very into shelf systems and micro systems,especially when paired with better speakers. The stereo listed as #1 in my signature used to be a Sony micro system with Polk RTi4 speakers.

I wised up and went back to components. :D Peace and goodwill.
 
Although I grew up with audio and even sold it at one time, I started collecting antique radios first. Had hundreds over the years. Still have a couple dozen. Some like my Philco 38-116 and Saba 200 sound pretty good, especially the Saba.

What you need is a 12G295 head, AEA630 cam, twin 1 1/4" SU's, lol!

It's like this...

I had a set of self-powered Labtec computer speakers. Dull, they were. Went to Radio Shack, bought a set of tweeters, wired and mounted them on top of the resonant plastic cases with a bent metal strip and double side sticky adhesive, and they were much more listenable. Still use them, as a matter of fact.

Then I had lo-fi in a new car I bought. Off to Radio Shack for another set of tweeters. Wired them in to the door speakers, mounted them on the "shelf" on top of the covers with more double side sticky adhesive and had one of the most pleasing car sound systems I could want. They were still in place when I traded the car in seven years later.

Some times dull lo-fi can't be helped. But if I'm going to be in it's presence for any amount of time, and improvements are justified, I'll be pursuing them.
 
There are times when I'm out in the middle of nowhere, open dirt areas, dry lake beds, etc. That's where I like to have fun with my radio controlled monster trucks. Often I'll just take my Samsung Galaxy Note II, play some stored music or fire up Pandora, and just put the phone in my top shirt pocket.
