Been threatening to do it for years and took the plunge this week after reading up on vintage receivers some and hearing a Drive vinyl release is coming from Mondotees he in Austin. Had a 5.1 setup with a Pioneer receiver over 10 years ago and was never really happy with the sound for music. Moved around and just gave the stuff away finally.

So this week I bought a very clean Pioneer SX 650. The Marantz TT42 turntable. And finally some cheap Polk monitor 60b IIs off New Egg. Oh and a crapload of vinyl from jazz to rap to new wave to rock.

Probably plug my "vintage" white iPod into the system too. :D

So we'll start there and see where it goes.

Any cartridge upgrades for the Marantz TT42?:scratch2:

Welcome to AK...and welcome to the vinyl road!! As far as a cart suggestion for your Marantz...post a query in the Turntables forum and I'm sure you'll get of ton of ideas. Me? As you can see...I'm a M91ED guy myself:) Also have a spare headshell with an ADC QLM32III mounted up just for "different"

Jams, I've had good luck with buying TTs (and other stereo gear) over the years by watching the local Craigslist - you can check them out in person and don't have to worry about shipping damage.

electronjohn, I was thinking of doing just that, but was worried about being flamed for buying the TT42. Doesn't seem to be well thought of after I did a search here. I really wanted something automatic in that price range but I did consider the Rega and Pro-ject.

Jamsofthewee, I was collecting records for years without having anything to play them on since the early 90s. Finally a couple of years back I just sold them off at Half Price. Lots of lounge and easy listening stuff. Kinda regret it now that I have taken the plunge. There is a shop here called Austin Stereo on Burnett I have been in a few times browsing. You might find something there. I wasn't very impressed with their TTs. End of an Ear has TTs for sale including a few Pioneers. I was just in there yesterday. I bought mine new from Amazon and the receiver from an eBay seller.
