Hi, I've just registered after trying to gain some knowledge on replacing my speakers. I'm in the process of replacing Vintage B&W DM14's with CM1's. This comes about as I've recently shed my beloved ONIX OA21 and aging Denon CD to be replace by an Arcam SOLO. I'm sure one of you guys will give me a reason, but the SOLO doesn't seem to be able to drive the DM14 with the same ease as the ONIX, so I've I'm going for a decent modern speaker which I've heard demo'ed with the SOLO.

The rest of my system comprise of AudioNote Zero Valve Phono Stage, old SystemDeck with AudioNote MM cartridge.

Where 'bouts in Scotland are you from? My wife is from Helensburgh, went to Glasgow Uni and we were married in Park Circle. Welcome aboard!

Linlithgow is where he is. Right off the M9 between Stirling and Edinburgh. Been to Edinburgh and Stirling, but I don't think I've been on that section of the M9. Welcome! Pour yourself a dram of Springbank for me.

Welcome to the board!

I've heard those B&W CM1's. Beautiful speakers, and they look nicer than those B&W's with the goofy tweeters on top, if you have conservative tastes like me that is. I almost got a pair myself, but instead got a good deal on a pair of 601 S3's.

I'm sure they will work just fine with the Arcam Solo.

I'm actually from Glasgow, I work in Linlithgow.. Very beautiful small town which has an ancient Palace where Mary Queen of Scots was born.

Glad to have you aboard! I don't think I can help with your speaker questions, I'm not sure what's available to you. I'm sure someone will help.

My great-grandfather was from Glasgow, never became a US citizen. When my wife and I visited Scotland in 2002, we used Linlithgow as our base and commuted in to Edinburgh. We stayed on a small farm owned by empty nesters who had turned their extra bedrooms into a B&B. They raised Clydesdales and at the time one of their mares was a week or so overdue. We were hoping to see her foal, but she never delivered! That was the biggest horse I've ever seen.

We were returning from Edinburgh one night and were approached be a group wanting to know if I would buy a kiss. We were tired and confused and didn't understand. They realized we were Yanks and explained the tradition of the bride pub crawling before the wedding selling kisses. I ended up paying for the deluxe model but only required a peck on the cheek. It was great fun. They invited us along, but we didn't want to keep our hosts up, they would have to let us in the front door. I'm sorry we couldn't spend the evening pub crawling, I think it would have been great fun!
